1. When you were a teenager, what was your dream for the future?

My dream was to have some sort of scientific career. I attended The Bronx High School of Science in New York, a school with a focus on Math and Science.

2. What were some of the biggest challenges you faced on the path to reach your goals?

I faced inequitable treatment of women, since I was the first female Internist (internal doctor) at Princeton.

3. How did you overcome these challenges?

I overcame these issues by maintaining focus on my studies and profession. I made sure to ignore the misogynistic noise.

4. What advice would you give to your younger self?

My advice is to look for a field that engages your imagination and fulfills your interests and personality. Find a wise mentor, enjoy your work, give it your best, live a full and loving life, and be kind. If you marry, find a wonderful, supportive spouse.
